The Best ‘proper’ MP3 For Children – the SanDisk Clip Zip

childrens MP3 player sansa clip zipA couple of years ago we reviewed the Sansa Clip+, which my boys use and which we loved.

Well, here we are, 10 days away from driving to Paris (*squeee*) and  woe of woes. Upon investigating the weird clonkety-clonk going on in the washing machine I spy, with a  sinking heart, one much-loved-and-often-stashed-in-a-pocket MP3 player spinning not-very-merrily against the glass door.

Nightmare. I can do nothing but wait for the cycle to finish – by which time, of course, the MP3 player has totally lost the will to live.
9yr old Jolly’s fault for putting it in his trouser pocket? My fault for not checking? The argument rages on, but the end result is the same. One drowned MP3, and one very long car journey with no music or audio books for Jolly.

To say he was wretched is an understatement.

But hurray hurrah hurroo for the wonderful people at Sandisk – when I mentioned this sorry state of affairs to them, they asked if Jolly would like to try out the new SanDisk Clip Zip for them.

Uh, YES? Please?

So – how does the new ClipZip compare?

If you’re 9, it’s

“totally awesome. It totally pones the old one”

(naturally – big brother still owns the old one).

Firstly, it has a colour screen. Never underestimate the joy this gives to a child. More importantly, it not only has a bigger capacity at 4GB, but it also has an expandable memory slot, so there’s no need to ever run out of room. It also has an FM radio tuner – which you can record. Genius.

Best of all, the quality is excellent, but so is the price tag – you’ll not be afraid to let them use it for fear of breakage, and if it should so happen to end up in the washing machine *cough* then the £30 bill isn’t heartbreakingly extravagant.

The Sandisk Sansa Clip Zip is available in 7 colours on Amazon for a note under £30.

A 70's child, I’ve been married for a Very Long Time, and appear to have made four children, and collected one large and useless dog along the way. I work, I have four children, I have a dog… ergo, I do not do dusting or ironing. I began LittleStuff back in (gulp) 2004. I like huge mugs of tea. And Coffee. And Cake. And a steaming cone of crispy fresh fluffy chips, smothered in salt and vinegar. #healthyeater When I grow up I am going to be quietly graceful, organised and wear lipstick every day. In the meantime I *may* have a slight butterfly-brain issue.

  1. It’s available from Memorybits (albeit in red) for £27, so even cheaper :)

Oddly, the region you select on initial set up makes a big difference- US removes the EU imposed volume cap. The Sansa Clip range are great IMHO.
