Bestest Christmas Gift Guide – LEGO Hero Factory
Way way back, many centuries ago, my then-7yr old son fell in love with LEGO Bionicles. Remember them? For my LEGO-mad boy, they were the ultimate in amazingness. Big robotic-looking creatures with an entire world created around them. the figures came in tubs, and were magnificent when arrayed along a shelf – and excellent to play with too, having jointed limbs and awesome weaponry involving waving ice swords and actually really properly shooting small balls from their hands.
He was very sad when LEGO stopped making them – but lookie look! LEGO have started on the Hero Factory, and it reminds me a LOT of the grand old days of Bionicles! They’re the galaxy’s most powerful peace-keeping organization, and you probably NEED them in your child’s bedroom right away.
Just like Bionicles, they’re the same big scary robot-looking armoured articulated figures, same slashy power swords and mad axes, and same ball-propelling hands (sorry, ‘meteor blasters’). Brilliant!
They fit together easily enough for a 7yr old to complete alone, and once connected they’re sturdy enough for some really good sword-waving action. There’s a range of small figures, which come in pouches (perfect for stocking fillers), and the bigger figures are seriously imposing.
As with all LEGO, you can pick them up from most toy shops – it’s worth researching to find the one you want as there’s a huge range and prices vary.
