Cheapest way to stay in London
OKay, feeling all excited now.
We were looking at a London trip at the end of next month – but for six of us, the cost of staying in central London makes even the train fare more palatable (NB – now have the Family & Friends railcard which makes family rail travel much easier on the bank balance too!).
We tend to aim for up-and-down in a day, to prevent the overnight costs. but of course, that inevitably leads to you feeling not only rushed and exhausted, but also a bit short-changed. the last train back for us is 9.20 from waterloo – and we sometimes want to enjoy an evening too, dammit!
We’ll be in Covent Garden for a totally awesome evening event (*whispers* MATILDA!), but that means no train home for us – so we’ll need to stay over.
Never ones to pass up an opportunity, we plan on hitting some sights the next day. We did the red bus tour in December, and we all want to go and explore a little more leisurely. Plus I want to pop in and say hello to the Blue Whale, and as I’ve never ever been to London Zoo I’m thinking we should totally make a short break out of it.
So I was properly grinning when I came across Travelstay – they say they have overnight stays prices from only £15.00 per person.
Obviously, I’m a natural cynic, so went and checked it out…
And whilst the cheapest options probably aren’t best suited to a family (24-bed dorms? No thanks…), there were some totally affordable brilliant options that seemed made for us. Especially when you’re not looking for anything fancy, just a place to get your head down for the night.
The emphasis is not on magically finding top luxury hotels at bargain basement prices. This is a site dedicated to finding the basic accommodation to suit your pocket – and then making it into an even better deal for you.
So I tried Travelstay’s system out; I put in our dates, and our rather explicit requirements (six of us, hotel (I may well be wrong, but I have a sneaky feeling that central London hostels will not be filled with the same people we’d chat to in a YHA hostel on the North York moors. For a family break, I’d like the peace of mind our own rooms/apartment would give us), wifi, Piccadilly Line, central location). And was made up with what came up!
