Noodling about the interwebs, as I do (what? It’s my job, people!), I just stuck my head in the door of PenelopeTom to see what was new – and fell instantly and deeply in love with a hare and a zebra.
Oh yes I did.
Now tell me you’re not ooh-ing a little bit too, way down deep inside.
Yes they’re a bit weird, definitely kitsch, oddly whimsical… but they’re downright HAPPY-MAKING.
And they’re not alone – there’s a whole collection of these hand painted stoneware animal face egg cups in a variety of animal face designs.
They remind me very much of my large collection of Wade Whimsies when I was young – the glossy finish and rich colours are just the same. And oh those faces! The hare is charming (though a little busy to be waiting around for you to finish your egg), the zebra is smiling, and the goat is about to tell you a really naughty joke.
Each holds a single egg, obviously, and I think every breakfast table needs one (or they could be great as a quirky desktop mini plant pot for a succulent or cactus).
