Last Christmas, the lovely Mr LittleStuff spoiled me with a gift from a brand I’d honestly never heard of before – Demijohn. No, you either? Don’t worry, you soon will (and you’re welcome – I know you’re going to love them).
I actually fell in love before I’d even tasted the contents; the beautiful round ball of a bottle made me squeak happily, and the handwritten message in white made it feel like this was a gift not from a shop shelf, but a personal thing just for me.
And then I tasted the Gooseberry Gin Liqueur inside it. And silently sipped again in delight. And sighed happily, and promised my little ‘sfera’ bottle that it and I would be very very good friends indeed.
Since then I’ve also had a birthday… and with the most delicious of reasons, our large dresser is now known in the family as ‘Potion Seller’s Corner’ (we were introduced to the potion seller video on holiday last year by our teens, and it’s a family favourite to quote at each other – do take 3 minutes to watch it, it’s genius).  I can’t tell you how much I love love love everything about Demijohn – even if their drinks were mundane and average, I’d love them for their packaging and their brand ethos. But they’re not. Good Lord their drinks are just…. amazingly good. So so good.

This is the inside of their shop. See?? They’re real life Potion Sellers.

Demijohn is a genuine family business, and the world’s first ‘liquid deli’. And they’re not just online (thank goodness they’re online, though) – if you’re lucky enough to be near Edinburgh, Glasgow, York or Oxford you can step into their real actual shops too. I can’t wait until I actually get to go to one.

This is the idea (online or in real life, the process is the same);

Choose your drink…

When you visit one of the shops you will not only be encouraged to taste, but also have the secrets about their products and makers (an underworld of small artisanal British producers, ranging from retired PE Teachers to ex Bankers, who make some of the finest things known to mankind) revealed by the passionate staff. Online, just read, you’ll soon get the idea.
Oh and it’s not just alcohol – oh no no no. There’s cordials, vinegars, oils and some jams & chutneys too…

…then the bottle…

After choosing your potion product, it is then individually bottled in your choice from their range of distinctive glass demijohns into their selection of attractive Italian glass bottles (my ball bottle is called a ‘sfera’, below, and I love it).

Because it’s all done individually, Demijohn not only hand write the product label on the bottle but can also add free personal message if you wish.

…and return your bottles to refill!

Demijohn encourage their customers to return to the shops and have their bottles refilled for the cost of the refill only. If you are further afield, of course you can simply post your bottle(s) back with your details and new request, and they’ll send it on back to you.
