As crafters, we’re always looking for inspiration – from the next best technique to innovative designs that we can adapt and make our own. If you’re looking to be inspired, one of the easiest ways is to hit the follow button on some of the biggest and best crafting influencers out there. Here, we’ve featured five of our favourites.
- Michael Brennan-Wood
A trailblazer in the art world, Michael is an artist who works with textiles and mixed media. His recent work, incorporating floral imagery and using a range of media is enough to inspire the newest of crafters, with stunning two and three-dimensional pieces that juxtapose one another beautifully when pulled together in one piece of art.
Michael’s work has been enjoyed in galleries up and down the country – including the Victoria and Albert Museum and 21st Century Museum of Modern Art. He has also worked as a lecturer at Goldsmiths College and Manchester Metropolitan University and is the featured artist for this year’s Education Art Prize competition.
- The Crafty Gentleman
Subverting the typical idea that crafts are a female activity, The Crafty Gentleman aka Mike, thinks up incredible craft projects to try at home. Follow the blog and Mike’s social media for tips, tricks and inspiration for your next big craft project. His Instagram is full of gorgeous shots of his latest creations but on the blog, you’ll find step-by-step guides with seasonal crafts and everything in between to try yourself.
- The Imagination Tree
If you’re looking for craft projects that you and the kids can be inspired by, The Imagination Tree is a must follow. Run by Anna, a primary school teacher, on the blog you’ll find a myriad of bright and fun craft projects to keep kids entertained and learning. Anna’s ability to apply craft projects to educational purposes is unprecedented, with sensory activities to engage children and crafts inspired by nature on the cards.
- The Upcyclist
If sustainability is one of your top priorities in 2020, The Upcyclist has projects to get your teeth into that are eco-friendly and allow you to produce beautiful artworks and craft projects. The blog is run by Antonia Edwards and focuses on using repurposed and recycled materials to create something exciting and new. Her blog also features interviews with other inspirational makers in the crafting, eco-friendly and interior design niches which make for interesting reads around your latest project.
- Crafts on Sea
You’ve likely seen a number of Kate’s creations on Pinterest, as the crafter goes about creating easy to follow tutorials that can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike. Her site is split into a ‘crafts for kids’ section and a ‘crafts for toddlers’ section – so everyone can get involved! Kate also shares her projects on Instagram if you’d prefer a quick snapshot of what is going on and Pinterest is another great place to follow this influencer for tutorials and even free printables.
