We LOVE English Heritage here in the LittleStuff House. We have had the single Life membership for… well, since No1 son was 3 years old, so we’ve had it for 20 years!
When we joined we were at a castle; there was a sign-up offer from English Heritage and we decided it would be a very good investment. We were right – we have easily made our money back over the years, and have so many happy memories with a growing family, roaming ancient ruins, playing hide and seek and eating happy picnics among the bones of history. With that card in our bag, there was always an easy cheap choice for a day out, wherever we were.

We opted for the single life membership, which allows you to enter all English Heritage properties (and some extra events) for free, forever. Not only does this membership allow the card holder to enter free of charge but also one extra adult as a guest, and up to six children until they reach 18 years old as well. ACTUAL Bargain.
So with the both of us and our four children, that was the whole family covered with one single membership.
English Heritage also works in Scotland, Ireland and Wales (under slightly different names – for example Wales is CADW), which is brilliant if you holiday in the UK. No more bored little ones and expensive days out, free Castles, stately homes and much much more to wander freely to your hearts content.
We love that at most English Heritage sites, children are encouraged to be hands on, not just stand behind a rope and look at the furniture. Many of their properties actively encourage young people to just get stuck in, try on that suit of armour, or maids uniform.
And then of course there are the events that English Heritage holds, some of which as a member you will be entitled to free entry, and many more attract a heavy membership discount. A few do cost extra, and that’s fair as these events are usually pretty spectacular and just cost a huge amount to stage. From historical reinactments, ghostly Halloween events and full-on massive battles, there is always something coming to an area near you throughout the year.
So, when we saw that English Heritage was having another sale we just had to share. They are offering a MASSIVE 15% discount off membership, and if like us you fancy the life membership I was talking about earlier, you would save an incredible £237, that’s nearly five years of standard family membership worth right there!
On a standard two adult membership (you can ignore the ‘family’ option, it’s all the same – you just pick whether you’re a one or two adult family, kids always go free) which is usually £115 a year (or just under £10 a month) the price comes down to £97.75.
Entry to our local castle as a non-member family (two adults, and up to three children) is £15.60 for a visit. So if you’ll make more than six visits over the next 12mths (we’d do six visits in a two week holiday when the kids were young) then you’ve made your money.
