There was a time when I chose my underwear purely on the way it looked – was it lacy, slinky, flattering, prettily-coloured? Rarely did I think – is this functional?
And then naturally I’d spent the next few months surreptitiously hoiking them up, wriggling them down, plucking them out… or simply passing over them in the drawer unless I’m dressing up for a night out.
Then a few years ago I started running, and actually made the exercise habit stick. I say ‘running‘ but really I mean jouncing, bouncing and puffing my ample frame along. But I did at least 15km a week, often more, and genuinely learnt to love it. What I didn’t love was the chafe.
I scoured the Fb groups and forums, looking for recommendations on running underwear that wouldn’t make my bank account cry, and time and again I saw recommendations for M&S Modal knickers. They were in the ‘3 for 2’ sale, so I gave them a go. They weren’t my usual style, but hey, they’re just for running in right?
Holy moly, it was an eye opener. These knickers are, quite frankly, the best.
No, they’re not glamorous or sexy. They’re not anything but dull, to be honest. But.
They stay where they’re supposed to – you never ever feel them once they’re on. Slinky soft, super comfy, and in a size to fit everyone’s body shape. And they come in shapes from a thong (which doesn’t actually floss your bum) to gurt big granny knickers to cover everyone’s modesty (*whispers* perfect period pants). They never lose their stretch, there’s never a hint of VPL, and they just fit perfectly.
Honestly. Best knickers ever.
And guess what? The M&S 3 for 2 sale is back! They range from £6 to £8 each (and they wash like a dream, so no worries about rotating them through the laundry fast if you only buy three pairs!). Go go go.
Be brave and buy the sensible mumma M&S knickers.
I promise, you won’t be disappointed. And yes, you can still keep your frothy lacy concoctions for going out-out.
