The Acer Iconia A1 is an android tablet, with all the usual bells and whistles you’d expect from an android tablet – but with that hint of extra quality you always feel with Acer products. The Iconia didn’t go cheap when deciding on the materials to use but instead went for top quality materials for the best sleek look and solid feel. The smooth silver metal back adds premium appeal and makes this tablet durable enough to handle being part of every day life. It has a 7.9in Screen size and comes in a very sleek and premium looking black or white; the fantastic dual speaker system is also a nice touch!
That’s all well and good until you get to the protruding camera, which does stick out noticeably; but that’s not a big issue especially since that’s probably down to it clocking in at a more impressive 5MP. The Iconia A1-830’s high-resolution display and 4:3 aspect ratio make it ideal for reading, web browsing, gaming and watching movies (how on earth did we all get through the week before Netflix?). Its narrow bezel design expands your view of the 7.9″ screen and provides everything you need in a package that fits nicely in your hand. The screen itself is vibrant and lovely to watch over extended periods of time, especially if you compare it to others of similar size in the market. The Acer Iconia Tab 8 features a 1920 x 1200 screen with zero air gap and images are vibrant and colourful; the full HD panel impressed us with the richness of the display.
Usually with the smaller handheld tablet sizes – it can feel irritating to watch things for a long period of time, I felt no such feeling with this Acer tablet, which is just an awesome little bundle of cool. It also sports a fast “Atom” Processor for faster web and gaming performance! The new tablet also comes with Android 4.4 out of the box, and you can enjoy that processor for up to 7.5 hours on a single battery charge! Which is pretty fantastic and definitely blows a few of its rivals out of the water!
My overall verdict is that good 3G connectivity and phone capabilities mean you’ll rarely be disconnected from the world, but the Iconia Tab probably won’t replace your phone. Still, it has some good stuff going for it, including a 5MP camera, a nice brushed aluminium finish that feels great, A gorgeous looking screen and a fairly good asking price. Overall a great product, and definitely a nice addition to the vast range of Android tablets available!
We’ve found the Iconia Tab 8 for under £150 at Amazon, which makes it a great price for such a fabulously performing little tablet.
