“The fiiiirst Noooel, the Angels did say…”
Behind door number seven of the 2016 Advent #LittleStuff24 is an amazing £100 bundle of nine children’s books from Harper Collins – with three signed editions from David Walliams, David Baddiel and Lauren Child!
I don’t know about you, but books are synonymous with Christmas in our house. Every child gets at least one book every year – not by accident, and mostly because they’re quite high on their wishlists.
It’s always been the case; gorgeous picture books for small toddlers which we shared again and again (and which still sit on a shelf like slivers of golden treasure waiting to be rediscovered). Short bouncy rhyming stories for boisterous 5yr olds, absorbing history and vehicle books for a no-fiction-thanks 8yr old, gloriously illustrated fancies for a dreamy daughter to pore over endlessly… right through to that eagerly-awaited sequel for story-hungry teens.
I love to read, and I never cease to find joy in the fact that all my children love to read too.
Don’t get me wrong – the boys especially have all gone through stages of not bothering to pick up a book. But I have found the best way thing for getting through those patches without losing that love of a story is the magic of an audio book.
If you’re looking for that little something extra for Christmas, don’t think a book is the boring option. Choose with care, and you’re giving them the gift of a whole new world, right there in their hands.
There’s some fabulous new books out this winter too – here’s a few of the ones that are toppping 10yr old Bear’s wishlist:
The Midnight Gang (David Walliams)
She fell in love with Gangsta Granny a few months ago, has steadily worked her way through the David Walliams library and is itching to get her hands on this new one. I love to read them with her – funny and insightful, they’re books that will break your heart and then swing into a smile within a page. Wonderful.
AniMalcolm (David Baddiel)
I became a huge fan of David Baddiel’s kids books when I reviewed the Person Controller . I wasn’t sure Bear was quite old enough to fully appreciate the subtle sarcasm, but she loves the sharpness of the humour, and can’t wait to read this one.
Blink & You Die (Lauren Childs)
Book 6 in the Ruby Redfort series – and it;s very hard to fall in love with a series that isn’t complete yet, because you just want the next one NOW. If you’re a fan – it’s HERE! If you’re not already, then I suggest you wave these at your daughter. They’re wonderful.
Harper Collins Children’s Books are offering one amazingly lucky reader a £100 Christmas bundle containing NINE of their latest childrens books. But it’s not just nine books. Oh no. Because THREE of them are signed copies.
I know!
