Wren Kitchens (who encompass Wren Living and Wren Bathrooms too) have recently completed a Cooking Trends survey… And mad as it sounds, it’s such an interesting read!
One of the questions was ‘do you photograph your food to post online‘. Can you imagine the faces on our parents generation if we’d asked them that 30 years ago? Apart from the obvious “What’s this ‘online’ of which you speak?”, the obvious “WHY would you do that?” would immediately follow.
And yet 44% of us do it now. I’m not actually sure why… and yet, I do love it when my Instagram feed is filled with delicious images of other peoples amazing meals. I think it’s because most of us feel we could be a bit more adventurous with our day-to-day cooking; gazing vicariously at other peoples meals is inspiring (as well as drool-making…), and has certainly pepped up my weekly menu plans.
Another statistic that would have been very different thirty years ago would have been ‘who does the majority of the cooking in your house’.
66% of men say they do the majority of the cooking now – I suspect that would have been a tiny proportion until relatively recently. Although I suspect some misconceptions are going here – 66% of men and 72% of women both claiming they do the lion’s share of the cooking?).
And with modern lifestyles, sitting down to a family meal around the table every day just isn’t always practical. But I do personally feel that it is so important to do it when you can – and I ‘m clearly not alone, with more than half of us managing it 4 or more times a week. Clearly not a nation of disassociated
And so Wren Kitchens would like to hear from you! In return for telling them how you learned to cook, they’d like to give you the chance to win £300 of vouchers that you can spend in any of their departments – Kitchens, Bathroom or Living!
How to enter? Why just use the Rafflecopter magickery below! First three options are compulsory, then there’s the usual extras for showing some love on the interwebs if you feel so inclined.
The closing date for this competition is 28th February 2015 and only entries received on or before that date can be included. The winner will be the first randomly chosen entry. Good luck!

My nan taught me to cook. She grew up on a fruit farm in Cheshire that was abundant with apples, strawberries, Raspberries and Gooseberries. She made the best fruit pie i ever tasted. She taught me how to make pastry from scratch and is my kitchen hero. Long passed now but still get her Christmas cake recipe out every year. Wouldnt be Christmas without it. Also glad to say we sit and eat as a family 6 out of 7 nights a week. A lot is learned at the family table
